Best gift ever
« on: January 25, 2012, 09:09:21 PM »
Well, yesterday was my birthday (not that it really matters). Anyways, i received some funds to get my bike seat made even comfier (so i can ride for 14 hrs instead of 7) and also to possibly get some new grips for my bike so my hands don't fall asleep due to loss of circulation.

I'm planning to get my stock seat modified so that there is more padding on it. I have a set of bar end weights on it.
thank you

A buddy of mine had the same problem and he threw as set of grip puppies on his VFR and last year he had zero complaints.

You can also also install BMW grips on ( better than stock ) as well add some Symtec heated elements for thos cold canadian rides. Get the rocker style.

I was thinking memory foam but the problem is, is that after long term use it gets stuck in one shape and becomes uncomfortable sitting any other way. I wonder if there is a gel-type padding that would work...but i can still see problems with that.

For grips i'm just looking for ones that are maybe 75-100% larger in diameter than my current ones,
as for those heated elements good idea, are they available in Edmonton anywhere?

There are gel grips available but I do not know anyone with them to ask on the long term effectiveness or how if heated elements create any problem. The BMW styled grips have the following part #

Try Argyll that way you can see the BMW grips on the Adventure bikes / tour Bikes and what ever they have in their acces dept. If need be go up to Honda Extreme and ask them.

BMW part numbers: They should have some in stock so you can play touchy feel with them.

I think I might try these...my only real complaint is that the grips are too small, so I was using a cramp buster last year...it works, but I don't really like it for around town or short rides...this seems to be a better answer, plus my current grips are getting kinda smooth...do grips normally wear out that quickly?  The bike only has 24,000kms on it... ???

Later.

I replaced my grips last summer @ 28,000 km. I could have gotten more out of them, but I wanted to get my heated elements installed before my trip. I would say around 30 thou before replacement. But, everyrider, rubber used and style of glove factors into it.

I only use my cramp buster on big rides. In town, I find that its in the way with all the stop/go's.

If you are particular about the right fit try mail on order custom seat manufacturers.. they take care of factors such as posture, sliding forwards, etc. for every individual needs and preferences. It should still be in the range of ready made seat brands.

And, happy belated birthday!

There's a guy here in Edmonton that does a bunch of seat modifications out of his house. My dad had his seat modified by him.
Gerry do you know a place in edmonton that sells those elements

If you mean the Heat elements, I think Scona does. I have used a few different styles heated grips, and I like the Symtec. Easy to to hook up and I never had a problem with them. Really, any dealer should have them.... they work with sleds and atv.

Which ever dealer your near, give them a call and see if they sell that style. And for the adhesive, I use the Honda glue. Not hairspray like others.

looks like it'll only cost about $100 to have my bike seat more comfortably padded.

Which means i have more than enough to start looking more seriously at a set of heated grips... ;D

Symtec heated elements with the rocker switch and then a pair of nice grips.

Warmth when you need it.

We'll see...I plan to take at look in argyll motorsports and the honda powersports shop on the south side. Which one has the best deal. I'm still kinda of partial on the heated element idea, but if it is significantly cheaper then "heated grips" then i'll do it.
