Here is a list of Alberta motorcycle insurance providers that I've compiled. They've been listed in alphabetical order. This will be an ongoing work-in-progress so if you see any that are missing, please let me know and I'll add them to the list.

Jevco is whom i have mine through.
This is who AMA and Western Financial use. Got a good deal and they don't class my bike as a sport bike..yay.

Jevco is who I have mine through as well...they classify the bikes by displacement, but they don't insure the super sport bikes....

Morgal rides a Honda VFR800...most classify that bike as a sport touring bike.  Nice bike, but not a good beginner bike.

I would check into the Ninja 500R, Suzuki GS500F, Ninja 650R, Suzuki GSX650F, Honda CBF600 or the Yamaha FZ6R.

The GS500F is a good beginner bike, and is cheap to buy...not the fastest, but does hiway speeds okay.  The Ninja 500R is a little faster, but very similar to the GS500F.  The other four bikes are  a step up from those, but are still considered beginner sport bikes.

Good luck on your search, and your re-test.

So are these bikes considered as Sport Tours then? from the list you gave, im liking the ninja and the yamaha...

Thanks! Road test again next Sunday. Examiners only have time till end of the month. I knew I should've practiced before going for road test, but what to practice on? wouldve been nice if i know people that ride personally. i've seen some bikes parked around the neighborhood and a couple down the street from us but i never really see them, or know them at all for that matter

Yes, the bikes I listed are insurer friendly...they are basically considered entry level bikes, not super sports.

As for getting some experience, I would look into renting an off road bike (125-250cc would do).  Practice what you learned in the course either in a parking lot or take it out in the boonies...the off roaders won't have signals though, so you would have to remeber that one.  I don't know if you can rent bikes...they rent quads though, so I don't see why they wouldn't...or even look into renting a scooter to get used to riding on the street with signals and all...you only need a drivers license to rent one (50cc).  No clutch work, but everything else will be the same.

I find the Grey Power ad on this site humorous given that they wouldn't insure my Buell at all after 31 years riding without so much as a parking ticket. My last ticket in any other vehicle was a 106 in a 100 17 years ago in a mini van.

I got a list from Jevco of "off limits" bikes...basically any Aprillia, Ducati, or supersport bikes are off limits...or any bikes that have similar performance...I guess that gives them a way to veto almost any sporty bike if the claims start to rise on a certain model...but the bikes I like aren't on that list, as far as I know...Buell has a premium on it, along with a few other brands...I'll have to post the list if I can find it...

Wonder how much the R1 will cost to insure....

Might have to be a track only machine if it's too much. Still have the FZ anyway.

There was also a note included with this...Bimota, Buell, Cagiva, Custom Built, Harley Davidson, Illusion, Indian, Junior, Laverda, Moto Guzzi there is a 55% surcharge on Section C (collision and comprehensive or specified perils)

I think the head honcho's at Jevco should re look at their company slogan. How about:
JEVCO:
* The choice for motorcycles in Alberta - if you own a CBR125
* If its fun to ride, don't bring it to us
* More than 50 HP, not in our stable

That's what gets me pissed about Alberta, why do all riders, or cagers pay the price for the douche bags who constantly get into trouble. Charge them on their LIC and let them pay when they re-new.

I forgot, its all about the $.

It's not quite that bad...mostly it's the supersports, not just a sport bike like a VFR which is concidered a sport tourer...the FZ6 is a sport standard, but has near the power of the R6...I think they have based this list on bikes that have had multiple claims...

They say the Bandit is okay, so your bikes should fit in as well...so does the MT-01... ;)

Its not a widowmaker VFR... Its a weekend widowmaker VFR..... I am allowed 2 weekends a month to go for a quick zip into BC. It only does 110 km !! so there !!
