Had my first 200+ km ride tonight...
« on: July 20, 2010, 10:39:08 PM »
I had to run out to our trailer and pick up our camping BBQ...the brother in law wants to borrow it, and is passing through tomorrow...so good excuse to go for a longer ride   8)...the trailer is just east of Bashaw, north of Buffalo Lake, and I live in Sylvan Lake...120kms each way.   ???

The ride out was very nice, no sore bits, just a nice ride.  Once there I had to strap the BBQ (its a table top version...very small) to the passenger portion of the seat, then off I went again...once on the road I realized that I had to sit with my crotch right against the tank because the BBQ was taking all the rest of the space   :o...after about 45 mins of this I started getting uncomfortable   :-\...tried standing on the pegs to stretch, but because I had to get right back into the same spot/position, the discomfort didn't stay away for long...by the time I got home 30 mins later, my right leg was sore   :P...other than that, the trip was great...I think if the BBQ wasn't there, I wouldn't have had any issues at all...I need to get a rack for stuff, some saddle bags and a tank bag...then I should be good for some touring...   ;D

The more I ride my GS, the less I notice the "shortage of power"...I used to complain about it alot, but I think I am realizing that it isn't a race bike...so just enjoy the ride...the only complaint I have is that it is hard to guage the speed without being able to hear the bike...I know, look down...but if you can hear the bike, you will keep the rpms more steady... ::)

Later.

300Km is a good length to start riding.
2A is a nice easy ride, I may suggest taking some of the more minor roads and zig zaging a bit if you make this trip more often just so it's more interesting. It's to bad it's so flat around here.

Stuart...I would suggest heading west to Hwy 20 and come in to Sylvan through Rimbey...the road isn't as busy and has more twisty bits...

I went for another longer ride tonight...headed out past Rocky Mountain House...trying to get a picture of my bike with the snowy mountain tops in the back ground...should have headed further south...no snowy peaks...boo...it's a challenge from another forum...picture tag...anyway, ended up putting on 190kms tonight...makes 240kms today...upto 4500kms so far this year.

This ride confirmed that I need to get a taller bike, after about an hour and 20 mins...my knees were getting uncomfortable and my butt wasn't happy either...

The ride took about 2hrs, and I was fine...but it could have been better...still enjoyed the ride, but had to stop because it was just starting to rain...no rain gear yet...

I think I may rethink the cruiser...the seat is much more comfortable, just have to get my lower back used to sitting in that position...
