Mountain Run 2010-end of season
« on: August 20, 2010, 08:01:41 AM »
 8)
Thinking of arranging a "Mountain Run 2010" for a Sunday morning in August, maybe early September. We, in Edmonton counld meet up in Rocky Mountain house with Red Deer and Calgary members of this group and the ACRC club 'beekers'. We could head West to Saskatchewan Crossing then North to Jasper. The next year (2011) we could head South to Banff. Could even be an overnight if lodging\campgounds are available, and participants are inclined  :)
No Booze nor Texting while riding. No Drugs.
Any Takers ?

I like the way you think...lol   ;D

But instead of doing an Edmonton loop one year and a Calgary loop the next, why not add about 200kms, make it an overnighter (I would plan this for a Saturday/Sunday ride...most won't be able to go if it starts on a Sunday) and do both trips in one... 8)

Edmonton Group could start in Spruce Grove and head down Hwy 770 past the Genessee power plant and head south on Hwy 20 into Sylvan Lake...meet up with the Red Deer/Central Group...head south to either Airdrie or Cochrane to meet up with the Calgary folks...out to Banff and up the Icefield Parkway to Jasper and back to Spruce Grove...then the other two groups could follow the same route and head home...I think it is just over 1000kms round trip, and would make for two decent riding days...

I think if we plan it for mid-September, the weather should still be good and it gives people time to plan for the trip...don't know if camping, or hotels are the answer...if we do a group booking, we might get some pretty good rates... ::)

Just my two cents...

Later.

I'd be up for the trip if I'm around.  I'm hoping to get to lower BC the second weekend of September but should be available at least one day the other weekends.  I'm okay with either format (one or two day).  If we only did one leg of the Icefield parkway, I'd vote for the leg to Jasper - I prefer it over the one to Banff.

Also, as for the online weirdo scale, I rate pretty low.  I can easily pass a security check and its never been recommended that I seek treatment for a psychiatric/personality disorder or drug/alcohol problem.  Plus I don't text while riding - I'm too busy painting my fingernails  ;)

Not that there is anything wrong with that...depends on your favorite colour... :o

We could also pick a shorter/day trip route for our first ride...but I don't know how that would work, just a ride to Red Deer and back is 300kms for Calgary, and 400kms for Edmonton...even the long route is lop sided, each group would have one long day...except for the central guys...and it depends on where the stops are...

Maybe this should be planned for the spring...it would give us more time to plan...it's kind of a big undertaking...

We could also have two rides start out in the morning, from Calgary and Edmonton and head toward Jasper and Banff...and meet in the middle at Saskatchewan Crossing to ride as one large group to Red Deer, then split up again to head home... ???

More input would be good...

Some really good input here, thanx. Looks like we got us some potential runs for 2011 now 8)

For the short term, was thinking Sunday (29 Aug'10)  we leave at 7:15am from Petro-Canada\A&W (Hwy 60 @ Yellowhead) in Acheson (West of Edmonton), meet with Whitecourt beekers at intersection of Hwy 39 & 22 (10km East of Drayton Valley), then meet up with any Southern beekers in Rocky Mountain House at 10 -10:30am for a meet & greet. Then we all head West to Sask. River Crossing, where we could eat a bite, refuel and say Bye 'till next run in 2011. We would then split up: Calgary beekers head South to Banff-Edmonton beekers head North to Jasper
Plan 'B' - If Sunday's weather forecast for RMH is really crappy, then we postpone 'til Sunday, 12 Sept'10

Yup, but I don't expect everyone to put off the ride to accomodate me...but I guess others probably have plans for the long weekend as well   ::)...I know, it's not all about me...I just like to think it is... ;D

Is that going to be Sunday, September 12th?  How many takers do we have on this one? I can probably round up two or three from the Red Deer area to do the ride (plus myself)...I think the 12th gives us enough time to gather the troops and make some plans...it's only two weeks from now, but it's not like we are planning a cross country tour...lol

Let's see how many chime in... ;D

I'll see how many from my other group are interested.

Later.
