Road to Sturgis
« on: July 22, 2008, 05:32:30 PM »
I thought I'd share my preliminary route plan to this year's Sturgis Rally.  I'll be leaving from Calgary after work on the Tuesday so I'll have to find a place to hole up that night somewhere in Montana.  I'd bring a tent and set it up somewhere but I've already got one waiting for me in Sturgis when I get there.  Any ideas?

(Route 1 - 860 miles/1,384 kilometers)

Weather permitting, I might just put my ass to the test and attempt to complete the Iron Butt Association SaddleSore 1000 Certification.  This would require traveling 1,000 miles (1,610 kms) in a 24 hour period.  I just hope there's a cold beer tub waiting at the finish line to sit my ass in if I do this.  The following change to my route would be needed:

(Route 2 - 1,005 miles/1,610 kilometers)

Feel free to comment or suggest alternate routes.

You want to take the shortess route to Sturgis staying off the expressways as much as possble.  Save your iron butt ride for another day, probably one that is on a long expressway with a higher speed limit, cause that will be one long ride.  See you in sturgis....
