Year round insurance?
« on: June 20, 2010, 09:59:30 AM »
Hi All,
I'm just looking at getting my first bike here in Alberta and new to the forum. I'm originally from Australia where the riding is year round. I would like to know if everyone just keeps their bikes fully insured all year round or just reduce to "fire and theft" for the winter? Does your insurance company charge you penalty fees for changing your policy every 6 months? If so, does it actually work out beneficial to change the policy?
Cheers,

Rob.

I was just in last week talking with my Agent about getting insurance, she said I have to pay for the Full year up front (476without Fire and theft or 635) And at no point you cannot have it back, If you cancel say in December, you dont get anything back, you cant pay monthly either. all up front and no refund at any point.

Hope that helps (=

they should refund it if you cancel....

anyways

Most insurance is year round but varies depending on the carrier.
I would assume some of the calculations to determine your rate take the winter into account. (assume they look at claims payed and less claims payed out since we ride less and thus crash less per insured person..)

I insure mine round as there are some years i ride at least once every month... it's also less of a hassle than canceling and renewing all the time. I just want to get on and ride. Shop around and get the policy that fits you.

I guess the company I'd be using is weird then, I'm going to call around to see if there is better deals out there for me (:

Thanks for the replies, seems like it will probably be easier just to keep it insured. Still need to phone around to get the best deal, keep putting it off....
