Kawisaki Ninja 500?
« on: June 09, 2010, 09:51:50 PM »
Ugly as they are, are they good bikes? Im currently looking at a Consignment at triple M Motorsports in edmonton, and its a 2005, been layed down, but its not that bad, they'll provide a inspection, and the price(if I can get it lower) is right, just needs a clutch handle and brake pedal.

What do you all think of the Ninjas? Good for learnings/long distance riding?

They are great for learning, they offer everything you can ask of a bike at a decent price.

As for distance riding it depends,
define distance riding are you talking a few hours? or all day multiple day trips?
How tall are you? a Ninja 500 for me a 6'2" is cramped
Are your riding with a passenger?(ninja 500's i would not ride 2 up longer than a couple hours if you want the other person to still like you)

:)

Haha, Im 5'9 and only 145lbs, not the biggest guy (:
Im going to talk to a guy tomorrow who is the Service Manager at a bike shop here, he has a 2002 Ninja for sale, Looks nicer than the one I looked at the other day(2005 one) I really really want this one, I  have the asking price out and in cash in my safe right now, so hopefully he'll let it go tomorrow and even ride it to my house seeing as I cant haha, Im super excited right now

and long distance would be 300km one day, 500 the next and probably 500 the next, might just get a trailer and tow it out in one day tho, as bad as that looks, Its faster that way (:

and I want to find a solo seat(if thats possible for the ninja?) so that I dont have to take friends for rides, sure I can say no, but then I feel like a douche, so Id rather just have a solo seat for awhile (:

Well just bring one helmet....also most bikes can have a cover that covers the rear seat or some other thing to make it look "cooler"

You should be fine for those distances IMO. But take what i Say w/ a grain of salt i ride an 800 and have done 12h on it and I have a friend with a 600 who barely makes it past 4h...it really depends on the rider and what they want.

I ended up buying it! To good of a deal to pass up, also got a Alpine star jacket and a HJC helmet, Im so excited! He's delivering it tomorrow afternoon hopefully if he can get away from the shop for a little bit :D

there's some minor cosmetic damage, but everything mechanical seems fine, I trust him. even gave me a warranty, So cant go wrong.

Ill see how I do once I go take the training course and get a little practice up and down the alley, maybe find a friend from work to ride with for a day or 2 so I can get some on road practice before taking the road test

Im signing up for next friday saturday and sunday at ASC, So, hopefully take the road test afterwards (tuesday or wednesday) (=

Edit: Im doing some reading, and Im on this wiki page, it says the Galaxy Silver was 2003, only firecracker red was avail in 2002, so does that make my bike a 2003? :S
