l.e.d accent light
« on: July 02, 2010, 01:42:01 PM »
Hi, i was just wondering if the led accent light is legal here at calgary. After all, more lights mean more visibilities right?

Just want a confirmation before I order a kit, thanks

Was explained by a motorcycle dealer that it was illegal.
I think it was the colour rather than the accent. If one used amber as opposed to blue, it would not be an issue.....but who wants amber accent? Red is reserved for the rear of the bike.

I think Jon is correct...amber on any lighting, and red is rear facing only...I don't know how sticky they are about any other colours...I have seen vehicles with the blue lights on the front, but I don't know if they get hassled or not...probably depends on the mood of the cop...

Later.

i can see why it would be illegal, but then again i guess it depends on how u installed the lights... i was thinking along the lines of an underglow (you'd be really visible at night) or perhaps if faired, inside just underneath the fairings on each side of the engine...

something like:

or

i dont think green would be a problem colour, would u?

Why would you need to "light up" the bike. Sorry if this sound a little harsh, but, other than it looking dorky, who would want to ride beside you at night with that glare. If you want to be seen, wear gear with reflective colors. With that bright of a set up, you fall into the following by you local PO or Sheriff

Alberta Motor Vehicle Act : Section 44
Visibility Of Lamps
Side markers/hazards,warning lamps ( brake-signals), identification, must be visible from 150 meters at night time.

You "green' colored bike can be tagged with side markers and rear brake lamp being discolored to the driver behind you or on coming traffic when your turning left. Why put yourself in that kind of danger. We have enough to worry about as riders as it is. I have first hand account of bikes being pulled over for having the pretty little colors all glowing, and if your a newbie...... be prepared to sit there for a while. Your bike is going to get checked out for any other infraction. The best one so far, fender eliminator kits where the lic plate is mounted "upwards" so it can not be viewed or phot radar snaped.

yes that makes sense. i was just wondering too coz back in toronto, i see lots of them glowing bikes at night, a couple of times there were probably 10+ of them riding all together, seemed like a runaway fanfare carrousel of sorts from Wonderland
