throttle problem????

Hi, im new to motorcycle so i dont know if its normal or not but here the thing. I was riding my bike and everytime I press the cluth to downshift or upshift the idle will go all the way up to 4000rpm, even on neutral it still go up. So is it normal or not thanks ???

Not normal unless you're holding the throttle open. Two things I can think of. 1 the idle is set too high. There is a screw that you can adjust for that. The other is  a sticking throttle cable. Can be lubed.

I'm by no means a mechanic but I've had problems with the idle set screw on an old bike.
